Solana Beach Works

In June 2016, Andesite acquired the 24,805-square-foot property known as Solana Executive Plaza, located at 215 S. Highway 101 in Solana Beach, CA.  Upon acquiring the property, we began working with Safdie Rabines Architects to create the design plans for updating and re-positioning the office building into something reflective of the improvements occurring in the Solana Beach community.

 

 

Rebranding

An important element to our repositioning strategy was to change the name to Solana Beach Works (“SB Works” for short).  There are two main ideas behind the name.  One – Solana Beach (the city) works (quite well).  There is a train station comfortably connecting us to downtown San Diego and downtown Los Angeles.  Cedros Design District is just a short walk away and offers some unique shopping experiences and an iconic live music venue.  Great restaurants and a terrific beach are just steps away.  Fletcher’s Cove Park has a playground for kids, a basketball court for the active and for those who no longer find it easy to walk a lot of stairs or walk on the sand, there is a terrific spot to enjoy the sea air and ocean view.  We are proud to be part of a small city that works so well, so proud in fact that we made it our name.  Two – It is where we “work”.  Many of us today work in the “service sector.”  Most of us work in small companies rather than large ones.   Utilizing “Works” in the name is indeed meant to invoke our industrial, manufacturing past. “Works” is meant to imply – the dignity and pride of hard work and a job well done – a community of families each doing their part to move everyone forward toward a better life.  In brief: quality, craftsmanship, care, pride, dignity, community, friendship, family…. all coming out of the Works.

Our Vision for the Property

Beach, casual, professional, community, current and industrial – these are the primary themes that have influenced our design philosophy.  We intend to replace the stucco, clay tile, and arched shapes featured in the existing Mediterranean architecture with metal, glass and brick elements as well as straight lines and square edges that convey the “workers” place of production.  SB Works will cater to individual sole proprietors desiring a single office suite as well as small businesses or branch offices with as many as ten team members.  We also plan to offer common use amenities that enhance the experience of our tenants, including meeting and event space, bike and surf board storage, as well as on-site showers for tenants who transition back to work from an occasional surf break or bike ride up the coast.
